The studio "Architectural Design in a Historical Context", lead by Prof. Bogoni, Souto de Moura, andCarrilho da Graça, deals with the complexity of designing areas for common living in strict relation to built and non-built outside space in a historical urban centre.
The workshop consisted in one study trip to Lisboa, and then two weeks of intensive workshop back in Mantova. It was a very challenging course that forced me to work in a fast-pace, demanding environment, but which gave me a valuable insight into architectural practices in Portugal. Our proposal is divided into a residential area and a public area. The two areas are delineated by the steep topography of the site: the residential area, adjacent to the convent and at the same topographic level, is accessed through a private courtyard. The public area, located 4.8m lower, faces the market of Santa Clara. To see my notes from the trip click here. To see the final submission, click here. |
